  • Product Description

This Tiny but Mighty Full Frame prime lens continues to deliver the combination of high performance and value typical from Rokinon. This new compact and lightweight lens, together with the existing Rokinon AF 14mm F2.8 and AF 50mm F1.4 lenses, now expands Rokinon’s full frame autofocus lens system for Sony E to three. Thanks to cutting edge optical technology, at only 1.2” in length and weighing only 3.02oz, this Rokinon is packed with features for outstanding image quality. Featuring seven elements in six groups, two a spherical lenses and one high refractive lens plus Ultra Multi Coating, it’s smaller and lighter than the Sony/Zeiss 35mm f2.8, yet offers equally impressive image quality at less than ½ the price! Auto focusing, an inconspicuous size, a 13.8” minimum focusing distance, and a slightly wide angle of view make it perfect for, travel, environmental portraits, stealthy street shooting, and landscapes. For Sony alpha 6000 and 5000 APS-C camera users the lens is equivalent to approximately 52mm to provide a “normal” angle of view. Offering extreme performance beyond its size, the Rokinon Auto Focus 35mm F2.8 Compact is an ideal lens for everyday shooters to have mounted and ready to capture every memory as a high quality image.

    Very impressive for the price
I just got this lens mere hours ago. I'm using it with an A7rii and so far I'm really impressed. Autofocus is MUCH quite than the 50 f1.8 from Sony. Autofocus is a bit faster than that lens too which surprised me. Manual focus is smooth. I had read some complaints of other off brand lenses like rokinon having laggy manual focus rings with lots of play in them, that is not the case here. I would say there's a bit of chromatic aberration in very bright high contrast situations but it's perfectly manageable in post. I also noticed the images are a bit soft at f2.8, particularly near the edges, but still perfectly usable. But anywhere between f3.5-10 fand it sharpens right up. It does have a bit of trouble getting autofocus quickly and accurately in low light compared to the Sony 50mm f1.8, but then again this is an f2.8 lens, you're not buying it for superior low light performance. So for crispy night shots you'll probably be fine tuning the focus manually. Bokeh isn't bad wide open but if you want creamy bokeh you really need f1.4 or 1.8. Besides 35mm isn't great for portraits anyway, 50-80mm is better for that. 35mm is an excellent all around lens for out on town shots, some landscapes, travel photography. The lens is light at only 80g. From what I can tell, it's all plastic except the flange where it meets the body. No weather seal here. The lens cap is a bit strange, though a Sony 49mm cap fits fine, so I'll use that instead. No lens hood is included, I thought a tiny good was included... I guess I imagined it, I probably wouldn't use it anyway.I'll update my review if I find myself dissatisfied over the next few days. I don't think I will be though. In summary:It's comically small and positively adorable. Image quality is very high compared to the price. Don't expect Zeiss image quality for these prices though you won't be disappointed either. I wish it had a slightly larger aperture but this is the sacrifice you make for a tiny lens.

seeing this lens in person, feeling it, and also knowing its a 2.8..you might think this lens is inadequate. but now ive been taking pictures with this for a couple of weeks and it does not disappoint. do not regret not saving up for a 1.4 or 1.2 version.. i already have faster lenses but at different focal lengths that suit my needs for portraits. this is wide angle anyways, so for most ppl using this for portraits, they would want the backround to be sort of shown off anyways. this lens has NO fringing whatsoever but some minor flaring if pointing directly at the sun. although its easy to edit it out in post.

very plastic, light, with small glass elements make this look cheesy but omg the quality..if you take alot of landscapes, you wont be disappointed. can be used for decent portraits also but if i didnt already have a good portrait lens or two... i probably wouldve saved up for a faster aperture version..although most ppl stop down their lenses anyway to show off a good scenic background along with the subject (f/2.8, f/4.0, etc)..so dont think f/2.8 isnt fast enough or wont produce great photos).

ive updated this lens as soon as i got it so its not really slow..does make minor noise when focusing but im not regularly shooting in libraries, so its not a problem for me.

The price is very good for its form factor, image quality and relatively fast autofocus. Its autofocus does tend to hunt on my A7III, but it's not too bad. My only dislike is the cheap, plasticky build quality. It feels like a toy rather than a piece of glass, but it's understandable considering its price. Also makes some noises while autofocusing but that's not a big deal for me. Its premium counterpart (the sony/zeiss 35mm f2.8) is 3-4x the price so this is a bargain in comparison.
